The introduction of
self-assessment in 1997 was a matter of concern to Chris Edwards, a
sole practitioner from Derbyshire; he saw early on that it was
going to cause an additional administrative burden to
practitioners.

The solution he
decided on was to invest in modern software. After reviewing most
of the available products, he chose IRIS as the package he would
use to produce facsimile income tax returns. IRIS, however,
provides more than just personal tax automation: it is an
integrated suite of products that runs Accounts Production,
Business Tax and other software functions from a central database.
So Mr Edwards quickly realised that the efficiency of the Personal
Tax module was only a small part of the added value the software
could offer him.

For instance, Mr Edwards says, "the Accounts
Production module is very strong. Not only that, implementations of
new legislative and disclosure requirements of the Companies Act is
introduced without any delay."
In fact, the introduction of the complete IRIS system has
helped Mr Edwards' firm make much more efficient use of its
resources. And he says "These resources are now assisting us in
providing a better service to our growing client base."
